SOMATIC COACHING

The word “somatic” comes from the Greek word “soma,” which means “the body”. Our approach aims to help the body feel safe after trauma and restore belief, confidence, and strength.

Trauma can deeply impact our daily lives, leading to addictions, unconscious patterns, or a sense of hopelessness. But change is possible when we listen to and process the sensations in our body.

Our 1:1 sessions include working on trauma resolution using somatic experiencing (SE) and the compassionate enquiry approach by Gabor Mate. So that when a trigger surfaces, our bodies don’t go back to the same state as when the trauma took place. This approach involves gently exploring the roots of your responses to life’s challenges, uncovering suppressed emotions, and reconnecting with your authentic self—a whole, peaceful, and unbroken essence—while fostering understanding, healing, and personal freedom.

“If you don’t come from a healthy family, make sure a healthy family comes through you. As Trauma and toxins can be stored in the body and inherited, so can healing. Healing yourself is generational wealth”

Why Somatic Therapy?

Somatics allows individuals to befriend their bodies and to understand their thoughts and their reactions. Somatic trauma therapy is a unique approach that focuses on the connection between the mind and body, recognizing that trauma is not just an emotional experience but also has physical manifestations. Many can talk all about their issues and traumas but can walk out of talk therapy still feeling constriction in their bodies, still feeling anxious, and still not understanding why their bodies continue to react in the same way to certain events as they occur.

How does Somatic therapy differ from traditional talk therapy?

Somatic therapy works from the bottom up starting from the sensations in the body and moving through emotions, feelings, and eventually thoughts. Trauma is a disorder of disembodiment and dissociation from our body. So tending to the body is the first step here.

How is addiction connected to trauma?

Trauma can manifest as neglect, abuse, or loss, leading to emotional pain that individuals seek to escape through addictive behaviours. Whether it be the use of substances or engaging in compulsive behaviours, addiction is a protective strategy that helps us numb or escape our pain, fill a void, or manage overwhelming feelings. Trauma can lead to disconnection from oneself. Somatic therapy works on healing the trauma rather than focusing on the addiction itself. The goal is to work with the underlying emotional wounds and create a supportive environment for healing.
